It’s a controversial topic I guess, since we never found a consensus about it after all this time. The short answer is NO.
I don’t think I will ever accept the damage that it did to all of us around the world. For me the real effect of this pandemic was that it destroyed economies, brought about massive inflation and most damaging of all (besides the death count, of course) was that it opened the flood gates of conspiracy theories to everyone. As much as I like questioning institutions and those in power, I don’t like how social media amplified all the most ludicrous ideas, the most impossible scenarios and out-of-reason ideologies sprung out of this as a result. It’s a complete fuckery which is still ongoing, where everything in the mainstream media is now being denied simply because we witnessed how the mainstream narrative on Covid was very much skewed toward insincerity. This dismantled the trust in reputable media outlets, pushing people into the hands of crooks, illegitimate sources and such that are way more unreliable, all because the mainstream ones allowed governments to control and sometimes silence their efforts in reporting truths. This is the worst outcome of this whole pandemic and one that will last many decades. It’s what gave rise to the vaccine-deniers (even though one vaccine being unreliable shouldn’t be enough to distrust all, right?). It’s what gave rise to numerous social media channels, podcasts, vlogs and all kind of other methods of propaganda that made fringe ideologies become normalised and brainwash millions of young, gullible minds.
